Overview

X (formerly Twitter) sources allow you to track posts and threads from influential accounts in your niche. Reduce aggregates the most important tweets so you can stay current without constant timeline scrolling.
X/Twitter sources are only available on the Pro plan due to API access costs. Upgrade to Pro to unlock this feature.

How It Works

When you add an X account as a source, Reduce:
  1. Fetches recent posts from the account within your content window
  2. Extracts tweet content including text, engagement metrics, and links
  3. Identifies threads and captures full thread context
  4. Prioritizes engagement by surfacing high-performing tweets
Reduce only includes posts published within your newsletter’s content window (e.g., last 7 days for weekly newsletters).

Adding an X Account

You can add X accounts using the username or profile URL:

By Profile URL

https://twitter.com/elonmusk
https://x.com/naval

By Username

@elonmusk
naval
The @ symbol is optional - Reduce handles both @username and username formats.

What Content Is Fetched

Reduce captures the following from each post:
  • Tweet text - Full text content (up to 280 characters, or longer for Premium users)
  • Publish date - When the tweet was posted
  • Engagement metrics - Likes, retweets, and replies count
  • Thread context - Full thread if the tweet is part of a multi-tweet thread
  • Links - URLs shared in the tweet
  • Author info - Username and display name
Retweets are excluded by default to focus on original content from the accounts you follow.

Content Freshness

X sources are checked:
  • Before each delivery according to your newsletter’s schedule
  • Within your content window - only posts newer than your lookback period are included
For example, if you have a daily newsletter with a 24-hour content window, Reduce fetches tweets from the past day.

Tips for Choosing Accounts

Follow Consistent Posters

Accounts that post regularly (daily or multiple times per day) work best for frequent newsletter cadences.

Prioritize Signal Over Noise

Choose accounts known for high-quality, informative content over high-volume shitposters. Quality beats quantity.

Mix Thought Leaders and News

Combine individual thought leaders with news/aggregator accounts for balanced coverage.

Watch Thread Authors

Accounts that frequently post long threads provide rich content for newsletters. Look for thread emoji 🧵 in their recent posts.

Content Quality Tips

Review an account’s last 20 tweets before adding it. If most tweets would interest your audience, it’s a good fit.
Avoid accounts that tweet too frequently (50+ times per day) unless you’re running a high-frequency daily newsletter. They can overwhelm your digest.
Combine X sources with YouTube and Reddit for multi-platform coverage of your niche.

Rate Limits & API Access

Reduce uses X’s official API. You can add up to 10 sources per newsletter (across all platforms). Prioritize quality accounts over quantity for the best results.

Pro Plan Required

X/Twitter integration requires a Pro subscription due to API access costs. With Pro, you can add X accounts as sources alongside YouTube and Reddit (up to 10 sources total per newsletter). Upgrade to Pro to start tracking X accounts in your newsletters.
