What Is Cadence?

Cadence determines when and how often Reduce generates and delivers your newsletter digest.
Free tier users are limited to weekly delivery only. Daily, Every X Days, and Specific Days cadences require the Pro plan.

Every X Days

Specific Days

Choosing the Right Cadence

Daily

Best for:
  • Fast-moving topics (breaking news, crypto, stock market)
  • High-volume sources with frequent posts
  • Time-sensitive information
Example use cases:
  • “AI News Daily” - Track rapid developments in AI
  • “Crypto Market Updates” - Daily price movements and announcements
  • “Tech Twitter Roundup” - Daily digest of tech industry discussions
Daily cadence works best when your sources publish multiple times per day. If sources only post weekly, consider a less frequent schedule.

Every X Days

Best for:
  • Moderate-volume topics
  • Balancing freshness with digest length
  • Custom rhythms (e.g., every 3 days to align with work schedule)
Example use cases:
  • “React Ecosystem Updates” every 3 days
  • “Climate Tech News” every 2 days
  • “Design Inspiration” every 4 days

Specific Days

Best for:
  • Aligning with your reading habits (e.g., Monday/Wednesday/Friday)
  • Matching content publication patterns (e.g., YouTube channels that upload Tues/Thurs)
  • Work-week digests (Mon-Fri only)
Example use cases:
  • “Developer Tips” on Mon, Wed, Fri mornings before work
  • “Weekend Reading” on Saturdays only
  • “Weekly Recap” every Sunday evening

Weekly

Best for:
  • Low-volume or slow-moving topics
  • Deep-dive content that requires longer reading time
  • Avoiding information overload
Example use cases:
  • “Academic Research Roundup” - Papers published throughout the week
  • “Podcast Highlights” - Best episodes from the week
  • “Long-Form Reads” - In-depth articles and essays

Delivery Time Considerations

Morning Delivery (6 AM - 9 AM)

Pros:
  • Read during breakfast or commute
  • Start the day informed
  • Fresh mindset for learning
Cons:
  • May compete with other morning routines
  • Time-sensitive content might be hours old

Midday Delivery (12 PM - 2 PM)

Pros:
  • Lunch break reading
  • Mental break from work
  • Content is more recent
Cons:
  • May get buried in midday email volume
  • Less focused reading time

Evening Delivery (6 PM - 9 PM)

Pros:
  • Wind-down reading
  • More time for long-form content
  • Includes full day’s content
Cons:
  • Fatigue may reduce engagement
  • Delayed access to time-sensitive info

Timezone Handling

Delivery times are based on your account’s timezone setting. Update your timezone in Account Settings if you travel or relocate.

Changing Your Cadence

You can change your cadence at any time:
  1. Navigate to the Schedule tab
  2. Update the cadence type or delivery time
  3. Save changes
Changing cadence resets the schedule. The next delivery will occur at the next scheduled time based on the new cadence, not immediately.

Content Freshness Windows

Reduce only includes content published since your last delivery. The cadence you choose affects how much content appears in each digest:
CadenceContent WindowTypical Digest Size
DailyLast 24 hoursShorter, focused
Every 3 daysLast 72 hoursModerate length
WeeklyLast 7 daysLonger, comprehensive
If your digests feel too short, try a less frequent cadence to allow more content to accumulate. If they feel overwhelming, increase frequency.

Edge Cases

First Delivery

Your first delivery after creating a newsletter will include content from the past 24 hours, regardless of cadence.

No New Content

If no new content matches your sections since the last delivery, you’ll receive a notification that there’s no new content this cycle.

Source Downtime

If a source is temporarily unavailable (e.g., API outage), that source’s content will be skipped for that delivery cycle.
